Court Cards as Astrological References
Although the Tarot de Marseille may be read without an Astrological overlay, we promote this as an option, because of the obvious Astrological symbolism throughout the Tarot. Astrological concepts were ubiquitous during the era of the Marseilles Tarot’s construction. Precisely how to apply the Astrological correspondences is left for now up to the research and imagination of the reader to solve this Riddle!

The Astrological Year is actually illustrated within the Tarot de Marseille. The fixed signs of Taurus (Spring), Leo (Summer), Scorpio (Autumn), and Aquarius (Winter) are positioned in the four corners of XXI Le Monde. This provides a read-made calendar around which the Royalty circle. Below, each royal card is associated with it corresponding Zodiac sign.
The Astrological overlay offers the reader immense possibilities. For example, if the Knight of Wands signifies Sagittarius, then this card may-- in the context of the reading-- signify things commonly associated with Sagittarius.
Rather than detail such correspondences, we leave it to the reader to research Astrological/Zodiacal associations given the plethora of information on this subject and then explore how this information would apply to a Court Card.
