Years ago, in the 70's. I had the Rider Waite Smith with pink backs and ankhs, and was always trying to get answers out of it. My mom figured, "Oh, she likes Tarot cards" and got me a deck and book set for my birthday. The deck was called "Tarot Classic" but it wasn't the one commonly known by that name now, I haven't been able to find images of it online. It was predominantly brown tones and had some details of the Swiss decks, like Le Pendu in profile. Not a true Marseille, but enough to hook me in. It's like Paul said, it's more authentic.

That was lost years ago, but I hunted down a Grimaud. Then the internet happened and I've got a fair collection now. I've got more TdM's than any other Tarots.

Hello fennario:

I'm glad you're hooked. Perhaps you have the Jodo-Camoin TdM? I think we will see some new revelations from M. Camoin this year regarding the Tarot and his Method. But, Tarot study transcends one man and one method, of course. Once you're hooked on the TdM, it is a lifetime study.

Best,

Paul

You could say that. I have the standard-sized version and the mini.

Agreed, you can never get to the bottom of it. There's always some new revelation.

I used Rider-Waite for about 35 years. I read mostly for myself, and the scenic pips were a pain. They seldom were relevant. I decided to try the Thoth, as I knew enough about Kabbalah and astrology not to be thrown by the symbolism. The abstract pip designs and historic numbering of the majors tempted me to try the Marseille. I got out my old Grimaud, and it instantly clicked. Now I use only the Marseille, similar Italian decks, and the 1JJ. I devised my own system for interpreting the pips.

I have the Camoin deck and have used it for many years. My first deck I learnt with 20 years ago was Marseille basically because I found all the RW and Thoth decks just seem to be screaming someone else's opinion of that card's meaning to me, which I found terribly distracting.

What I like about the Marseille is that it is so esoteric and with so many keys contained within I find my intuition kicks in easily with it whilst still being informed by all those hidden codes.

I recently purchased the ISIS version Marseille de Tarot which look pretty good.
